In addition to exploring the Santa Cruz Mountains Appellation, be sure to take a drive to the southern-most tip of the Santa Clara Valley wine region, where the rolling hills and old barns and open spaces are pleasant reminders that this was once a thriving agricultural area. The Santa Clara Valley Appellation (mainly in the Gilroy/Morgan Hill area) is an up-and-coming wine region that features friendly service, good picnic spots, and a chance to meet a winemaker or two while enjoying everything from Malvasia Bianca to red Bordeaux blends to dessert wine – and more.
The biggest winery in this area is Clos La Chance, a winery that focuses on sustainable practices and features not only a state-of-the-art production facility, but a gorgeous winery and Tasting Room, on a beautiful property with views that will make your heart sigh with happiness.
